About polyolefin film Gunze’s shrink film business have a top market share in Japan. In this business, we are working to use petroleum effectively which is a depleting resource. Of the plastics produced from petrochemicals, those with density 1 or less g/cm3 are polyolefin materials. Polyolefin is a general term of polymer compound such as polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP). Polyolefin has been used a lot from its easiness of recycling and since the density is 1 or less g/cm3, the amount of plastic produced from the same volume of petroleum is the largest, so it is possible to use petroleum effectively which is a depleting resource. There are two advantages of polyolefin shrink film. -First advantage: Density separation Different materials are used for PET beverage bottles, caps, and sleeves. In Japan, recycling rate of PET bottle is high, but in other countries, the low recycling rate has been regarded as a problem. However, it has not been solved because of the cost, efficiency and infrastructure. By using polyolefin shrink film, it is possible to use limited resources effectively by collecting the floating film and recycle it. Now, Gunze is working to convert to polyolefin shrink labels, which through density separation in water, allows them to be easily collected for recycling into various products. -Second advantage: Mono-material solution Polyolefin shrink film is effective for the mono-material solutions with PE/PP-based containers. Polyolefin shrink label and PE/PP-based containers can be recycled together with efficiency, so it would reduce CO2 which leads to circulating society. Also, we are aiming for the realization of thinning the film, which leads to the reduction of using plastics. Not only eco-friendly but the polyolefin film of Gunze also has a great shrink appearance. In the future, we will take on the challenge of recycling labels directly into more labels. This will enable to achieve a world of zero plastic waste together with companies that can agree with our efforts. We are looking for partners to work with. Below is the link of our efforts in the plastic film business aiming for a world of zero plastic waste. The introduction of shrink film business starts from 01:16.
