PlanaWood is not wood, but a substitute for Natural Wood by Plana, a solution to address the problem of deforestation, plastic waste, and agricultural issues. PlanaWood has a shape, strength, attributes, and texture similar to real wood, especially Iron Wood. It is made from 60% rice husks, 30% plastic waste (HDPE) such as cosmetic waste, and 10% additives. This solution turns unused plastic waste and rice husks into something far more valuable, extending its usability, durability, and quality. With PlanaWood, Plana aims to create sustainable products that can become the main substitute for natural wood to reduce deforestation rates, reduce plastic and husk waste, and increase farmers’ welfare by utilizing unused rice husks.
Plana has conducted extensive research and development for seven years to create PlanaWood made from rice husks and plastic waste, a wood substitute as in texture, looks, quality, strength, and all the MVPs to become a product, even have more advantages such as anti-termite, anti-weathered and fire retardant. The efficacy of the solution has been demonstrated through various tests and evaluations, including tensile strength, moisture resistance, heat resistance, weight capacity, impact test, durability, etc. Plana has also received certifications and awards for the product’s sustainability and innovation, such as the B20 Sustainability Awards 4.0, Climate Innovation, Tempo Circular Economy Awards, and many more.
