“Pirika” – the world’s largest waste clean-up social media platform

App “Pirika” is an SNS that enables us to share photographs of the litter as it is picked up and encourages people to pick up litters around them. Its strengths are visualizing cleanup activities on the map, sharing this information with users, and sending “thanks” to those who participate in picking litters up. Through “Pirika”, over 170 million pieces of litter were picked up in 108 countries between 2011 and 2020. It has been contributing to reducing the plastic waste leaked from the land to the ocean. “Pirika” is originally oriented for the general public, but is also popular with businesses and municipalities. For those organizations that want to advertise and encourage clean-up activities, we offer additional services for a fee. Using “Pirika”, we can provide quantitative data about what products and brands are being picked up as litter, and then this information can be used to develop targeted solutions.
